Our top story tonight: Catalyst from Archive Crawl wrote a little review about us! Our final score: 6.5/10, which according to this grade scale, places us at the same level as Nerfnow and just slightly better than Menage a 3, but not as good as Questionable Content. Ah well, what are you gonna do. Overall, it seems like Catalyst’s biggest concern is that we might just become another Questionable Content or Menage a 3, and while those comics aren’t necessarily bad, that’s really not the direction we want to go in. Never fear, people. We’re forging our own path here, not walking down someone else’s.
Anyways, Leslie’s back to digital inking again. Why? No clue! Sometimes she wants to ink digitally, sometimes she wants to ink traditionally. That’s just the way she is sometimes. It’s like she has some inking disorder. I think both ways look fine, really. I mean, they both have their ups and downs. I like the clean look that digital inking gives us, but at the same time, the boldness of the traditional inks looks real neat. What do YOU guys think?
But alright, that’s today’s update. See you on Sunday!

Is the panel 3 background part of a full letter? Can we read it?
It’s actually just a little paragraph I wrote and split up:
“Konichiwa Nijisolude! ^ – ^ it’s me again!!! Your last fic was so amazing!!!!!11 Everyweek I look forward to your updates your writing is so kawaii =OuO= xD i know this is like the 13th e-mail i’ve sent and you haven’t replied yet
But it’s okay i know your busy!!!
just letting you know i’m still here reading your amazing stuff!!!1 Keep it up!! oWo”
Oh, goodness, thank you. Broken weeaboo Japanese is like a fine wine to me.
Broken weeaboo Japanese is fine wine? Woah! More like you are drinking a 5th of jamasons every day.
First, it’s “Jameson”. Second, it’s a pretty good Irish whiskey. I prefer Tullamore Dew, but Jameson is good as well. I think you were looking for something like Mad Dog 20/20.
its like when Luke found out Darth Vader was his father!
No… It’s not true… that’s improbable!!!
B-But I like Menage a’3!
I’m on there ALL the time.
opinions are just opinions. I enjoy Nerfnow and Menage a 3 too. my only opinion is that you should focus on character interactions and avoid internet forums talking points.
I used to actually be internet friends with Jo, the guy who does Nerfnow. I helped him decide on his design for Blu Engie and played some TF2 with him back in the day when he was still a fledgling drawfriend on /v/. Hell, I even have a screencap somewhere of him and another famous drawfriend Heavy+Medic’ing me at TF2. We don’t talk at all these days, though, sadly.
KroganLagann: I was joking Krogan.
Still, you guys get a 10 out of five.
FIVE MORE THAN X-PLAY SCORES. YAY
This story just keeps getting better!
Leslie, have you ever written a Fanfic?
I like this comic and am honestly surprised that it doesn’t have more readers. Maybe once it gets a little farther along in pages…?
The review you posted had some good points, but most of them amount to “we haven’t had enough exposure to know.” The point about Matt having very, very little development is important to note, I think! I like the other characters, but considering that Matt was the very first person seen on the very first page (sorta?), I feel like it’s a little odd.
I don’t have much to say about the rest of the review because the guy who wrote it couldn’t get past Act 1 in Homestuck, but I agree that this one’s definitely worth a recommendation. It’s one of… *counts* only 12 comics that I follow, including such big names as (obviously) MSPA, Dr McNinja and Manly Guys Doing Manly Things. So, yeah, I rank it up with those.
Gawd, this comment is starting to feel like a review, too.
8.5/10, would definitely recommend, looking forward to seeing more, also elaboration on panel 4 as a donation incentive ple-*connection lost*
8.5?! NOW WE’RE WORSE THAN TWILIGHT PRINCESS!
Thank you, though, it’s really awesome to hear how people like us on the same level of other webcomic we personally love. But I have to disagree on the issue of Matt, seeing as he’s the only character to have an entire chapter devoted to exploring him. We know his likes, his dislikes, his inner-most thoughts, his self-esteem issues, his parental problems…I figured, y’know, we laid a pretty large foundation down for this character, so now we can come back to him later. Either this chapter or next, we’re going to devote another chapter to him and another lucky BN character and look more into him.
I don’t think it’s the lack of development here that’s the issue, it’s the lack of screentime. And I’ll admit, he hasn’t played a major role in these last two chapters. But don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of Matt to go around soon. We have a lot of plans for his character in particular.
Just to note, eventually all of the characters are going to be just as deeply explored as Matt.
Just gonna RUDELY BUTT IN HERE and opinionate that it’s probably *because* of the chapter devoted to him, including that introductory first page, that people (including me), have gotten this Main Character sort of vibe/first impression of him??? V:
Of course, the other chapters have been more balanced with character exposuring, but that first impression is hard to shake
Oh no, I get that. Matt was the main character of his chapter. But as far as Blaster Nation itself goes, he’s only one of the main characters. There’s a handful of main characters, and Matt was just the first.
Think of it like Pulp Fiction. You’re introduced to quite a few characters at first (the couple at the diner, Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta’s characters), but none of them are the main character (well, maybe John Travolta). They’re just one of many equally important characters.
Blaster Nation is like that, except without the drugs, violence, guns, 70s style, foot massages, graphic on-screen male rape, or a dead Phil LaMarr. However, you can look past the confusion of the whole main character business in that movie because it only takes two hours to understand everything. We’re slightly slower.
Also, as for elaborating on panel 4, donate over $50 and Leslie will draw an large-scaled print of Ash’s awesome blanket, intricately detailed and laminated for your pleasure.
no i’m kidding don’t do that
And by kidding, do you mean that I should do it anyway?
…So you DON’T want us to send you our money?
DON’T TEMPT ME, FRODO
What is Ash gonna do? Jump out of the car?
Maybe we should write some erotic fanfiction of this comic. Then we can be nerdilly wrapped up in blankets like that, reading things that are so wrong its not even funny, like RinnieXAsh
Itd be like a car crash.
So horrifying, but you simply cant look away.
So i see that everyone wants a ashXmatt relationship, and many people think that Matt is the main character, when this all opposes Brad and Leslie’s Dastardly Plans.
So Brad, you like to play with people’s minds and then pull a catch 22 and a plot twist, do you?
Well, duh, obviously. That’s what makes these things FUN.
But don’t worry, I’m not going completely against expectations just for the sake of unpredictability. I’ve got a pretty clear-cut idea of where things are going and who’s doing what or who. I’m just glad you guys like Matt enough that you want more of him.
Matt? Whos Matt?
OH! Thats Matt? I thought that it was some sort of raccoon.
I knew he looked fishy what with his humanoid walking and speech D:
This page is looking smoooooth.
I’d never heard of those other comics you guys were compared to, but I checked them out and they didn’t seem nearly as good as you guys. For a comic that’s only barely over 50 pages in, the characters are remarkably well-defined, and the art style is far above average for a webcomic (not meant as a dig, I like the art a lot in this comic). Keep up the good work, this is pretty much the first webcomic I’d even considered donating to, so hopefully that’ll boost your egos as well as your coffers.
EGO OFFICIALLY BOOSTED. Only 1200 more ego points until Brad achieves the title of HUGE JERK.
But seriously, thanks. You have no idea how much we appreciate you guys. I just wish there was more I could do to make you guys even happier with the comic. BUT DON’T WORRY, I’LL FIGURE SOMETHING OUT.
Where are the seatbelts? LOL. Now we don’t get to see seatbelt cleavage.
In Blasternation universe. Seat belts are not important.
But…. Diagonal cleavaaaaaaaage….. 0_0;
Blaster Nation takes place in an alternate timeline from our own, split off thousands of years ago during the time of the ancient Egyptians.
The only difference is that in Blaster Nation they have learned to make seatbelts invisible.
It’s kind of boring as a parallel universe to be honest but luckily that isn’t the point of the comic.
holy shit do you guys write from experience?
I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THIS FEELS LIKE.
ARGH THIS PAGE.
EVOKES EMOTIONS.
